SMS Alert enables Partner to send SMS to all or selected customers within a geographic area in Telenor's network.
Population Alert
Telenor’s SMS Alert product was initiated by Øvelse Tyr. Øvelse Tyr is a yearly “field trial” in crisis management arranged by the Norwegian Police and related parties.
In 2009 Øvelse Tyr was conducted in the Grenland Area. Grenland combines dense population and industry. In the early morning of October 26th 2009, all mobile subscribers in the Grenland Area, about 60.000, that were on Telenor and Netcom’s* mobile networks received an SMS Alert message. In a real alert situation the message could have read disaster details and how to evacuate, but the purpose this time was to inform the public about Øvelse Tyr.
The trial was a success. SMS Alert is an effective tool for quickly sending information to all mobile subscribers within a area in Norway in Telenor’s network.
SMS Alert also enables sending of SMS messages to all Telenor customers in specific countries abroad (e.g sends SMS text…. to all Telenor subscribers currently in Sweden).
Telenor expects that several population alert systems will be delivered in the years to come. These systems are likely to be an essential part of disaster preparedness plans.
So next time there is a gas leak, bacteria in the public water supplies, avalanche or explosion risk or another dangerous situation in your area, maybe you’ll receive an SMS warning through SMS Alert.
*Netcom’s subscribers were reached through a similar system in Netcom’s network.
White list Alert
Think that you’re a manager at Pizza Club and that Pizza Club has a base of registered customers that have accepted to receive special offers on SMS. A party has just been cancelled and Pizza Club at Trondheim Torg suddenly has many available tables. You obviously don’t want to miss business, and this is where the SMS Alert white list product comes handy. The Pizza Club customer base is already placed in a Pizza Club white list in the SMS Alert system. Pizza Club Trondheim Torg also has a predefined area that covers the surroundings of Trondheim Torg. The fabulous application is developed and configured by a Telenor Partner.
All the Trondheim team has to do is run an analysis of the number of Pizza Club customers within their predefined area and execute an SMS with a special offer to these.
Pizza Club Trondheim Torg also has a “all of Trondheim” area used when the offer has longer validity, and Pizza Club can also send messages to all customers in the White list independent of where they are.
